Mauricie, Quebec Apartment & House Rentals

Mauricie, one of the better known regions of Quebec, has a few nice rest stops just when you need them, situated halfway between Montréal and Québec City. After the river enters the Parc National de la Mauricie, Trois-Rivières is ideal for a walk along its river promenade and things get considerably more scenic. Stretching 300 km north from Trois-Rivières to Lac St Jean, this region parallels the course of the mighty St-Maurice River, which has been the bedrock of the area's industrial heritage for centuries. Up to as early as 1996, logs were carried down the river to the pulp and paper mills. Centuries ago, the area birthed the iron industry of Canada.

The economic and cultural center of the Mauricie region is Trois-Rivières. The settlement was established by French colonists on July 4, 1634, after Quebec City in 1608, as the second permanent settlement in New France. The name of the city, which is French for 'three rivers,' is named after the fact that the Saint-Maurice River has three mouths on the Saint Lawrence River; the river is separated by two islands. Historically this town was known as Three Rivers in English. This community is mainly a tourism attraction, and houses for rent may be difficult to come by but they are available and often affordable.
