Both of us are quiet and friendly, and we keep the house relatively tidy. We occasionally share meals together and chat pretty frequently. We shared a veggie CSA in the summer, and had several barbecues with the downstairs neighbours. We enjoy reading, music and board games. Ideally we can find someone who wants to contribute to the overall atmosphere and functioning of the house. The main qualities we appreciate in a roommate are honesty, good listening and communication skills, mature conflict resolution abilities, a desire to contribute to the house, and a willingness to respect and work towards each other's needs and desires. Housemate 1: I am a student of medieval literature and philosophy at the University of Toronto. I commute into the city once or twice a week, and work from home the rest of the time. I spent my teens and early twenties working on organic farms and studying fine furniture making. I now spent most of my time and reading and thinking. I play a little music, I’m a published poet and an essayist, and I’m always involved in some kind of book arts project: bookbinding, letterpress, calligraphy, etc. Locally-speaking, I volunteer with the writers’ group, and tend a plot at the community garden. I used to work for the local Outdoor School. I’ve spent nearly my whole adult life living with other people: from punk houses to small apartments, organic farms, intentional communities, and student slums. I’ve lived with very close friends, and with total strangers. Now that I’m a bit older, I value a certain level of compatibility and respect between roommates, and I think that the work of living together is commensurate with the rewards. I am interested in living with housemates who understand that living together takes some work – not a lot, but it does take work – but who sees the value of this work, and know that it comes with rewards. I am not interested in living with someone who needs a place to crash, wants to ‘do their own time’, or strictly encounter one another in the hallway. I have the skills and the desire to invest in a warm, welcoming household. I would like to share these with someone else who wants the same. Housemate 2: Happy to tell you more about myself when you get in touch. :)
