Description
Hi there! I’m posting on behalf of the co-op I belong to. We’d love to hear from community-minded people interested in living with us! (Please don’t comment or private message my personal account to make inquiries. Instead go to our website and send us an email.) *** Looking for people to join our awesome co-op in New Westminster! *** For more information and to fill out our application form, please visit our website: http://thecrcacoop.wordpress.com/ We only have rooms for rent, not apartments, which are not suitable for families. At this time, we are not setup for dependant children or pets We have an upcoming opening, and also want people on our waiting list. We live in one of the oldest co-ops in BC, established in 1967 by a group of forward-thinking students, teachers, radicals, and hippies. Today, it's still thriving but it's a much quieter, calmer place. We're a group of about 20 students, professionals, and retirees, and we welcome adult applicants of all ages. We live in two adjacent 3-storey heritage houses that are a 10-minute walk away from Columbia and New West Skytrain stations. We share a garden, bike shed, laundry room, and 8 bathrooms with 4 showers/tubs. Most bedrooms have a sink. Rent is between $770 and $925 month, depending on the size of your room. We are looking for applicants who want a home, not just a place to sleep. We want people who are comfortable taking initiative and keen to contribute their skills and energy, helping us continually improve our co-op. We’re also looking for people who are warm, kind, level-headed, and pleasant to live with. If you are community-minded and open to collaboration and compromise, we’d love to get to know you. A sense of humour is pretty essential too! What we love about living here: · The community. We all have our own busy lives, but we work together to keep the co-op running smoothly and we help each other out with advice, resources, baked goods, and great conversations. When people move on, it's generally because they're moving out of the Lower Mainland or moving in with a partner and wanting a bigger space, and they usually say the thing they miss most about the co-op is the community. · The food. You have access to a fully-stocked kitchen, pantry, and some large freezers. We each belong to a 4-person cooking team, to produce 5 communal dinners each week. That means you typically cook once a month for everyone, and have a team to help you cook and clean up afterwards. And a few times a month, you help with either prep or cleanup. The rest of the month, you get to show up at 6pm and have a delicious meal (with a vegetarian option) waiting for you, and all you have to do is wash your plate afterwards. · The benefits of living in large heritage houses. We have some lovely communal spaces to hang out in when we're feeling sociable, including a large dining room, a comfortable and well-stocked library and a large living room with beautiful stained glass windows and the most comfy sofas ever. · Our rent includes utilities, food, wi-fi and cable in each room, Netflix, a Globe & Mail subscription, and access to shared resources like household tools. · We have well-tested systems in place. When sharing a home with others, it's often tricky to work out who does what and how to make everything work. Our co-op has survived and thrived over the years because previous and current members have developed great systems that we're always improving upon. FAQ: Living with ~20 people sounds terrifying! Why would I want to do such a thing?! · It may take some time to adjust, but you'd be surprised how quickly you find yourself enjoying living with such a diverse group of people. Your private room is great when you want time to yourself (although we don't want to live with people who NEVER want to hang out). I have to cook for ~20 people? I've never done anything like that! · Most of us hadn't either, when we applied to live here. Basically, it's like cooking for one person but with a lot more vegetable chopping involved. As long as you're interested in learning how to make a good meal, you have a team to help you make it happen. Can I apply to live there with my partner? · Yes, although each adult will need to apply separately. We currently have a few couples sharing rooms. Are pets allowed? · Sorry, no. Can I smoke there? · Respectful smoking outside (away from doors and windows) is allowed. Smoking inside is not allowed (this includes vaporizers).
